[動画でリスニング]ニューヨークが恋したホテル　カーライル

動画でリスニングレッスンです。

今回は世界中のセレブが愛する、ニューヨークのエレガントなホテル、カーライルの映画　
「ニューヨークが恋したホテル」の予告からです。原題はAlways at the Carlyle（いつもカーライルで）

アッパーイーストサイド、マディソン・アヴェニューに1930年にオープンしたアール・デコの美しいホテル。
FJKが大統領だった時にはここのレジデンスを借りていたため、ニューヨークのホワイトハウスと呼ばれていました。

このホテルにあるベーメルマンズバーの壁は、絵本のマドレーヌシリーズで有名なベーメルマンスの絵で覆われ、
ステージでは度々ウディ・アレンがクラリネットを演奏し、チック・コリアなどの有名音楽家が飛び入り演奏するという夢のような場所。

John Hamm: If you are staying here, you feel like you’ve made it.
Interviewer: Have you stayed here?
John Hamm: I’ve never stayed here.　
★理解のヒント：you’ve made it 成功する。　
ジョン・ハムは人気ドラマMadMenの主役ドン・ドレーパー役で知られる俳優さん。

Hotel Staff：
We don’t talk about our guests and that’s one of the reasons
that people do feel so comfortable to stay here.

This room, it’s probably had some very elegant evenings.
and it’s probably had some pretty dastardly things go on.

TOMMY(Bartender): Whatever happens here, stays here. 
★理解のヒント：字幕は「ここでの出来事は歴史的だ」とだいぶ意訳されていますが、
正しくは、「ここで起きたことは、ここに留まる」外へはバラさない、秘密にするという意味です。

Sofia Coppola: It’s very comfortable and it’s not a world I grew up in, so it has an exotic feel.

とても居心地が良くて、私が育った環境とは違うので外国にいるみたい。

大好きなアッパーイーストサイドにあるカーライル、いつか泊まってみたい憧れのホテルです。　
ちなみに一泊７万円くらいからでした。１００年近く経つエレベーターがまだ現役で動いていて、
殺人的に遅いそうです。NYの古い建物エレベーターはいつまで経っても来ないことが多いので、
よく非常階段を使います。NYあるあるだね。
